Valerian, The Legendary

Chapter 203

The berserks were helpless against this, and they knew what was going to happen to them now. The Sapientian soldiers had been frustrated and being held back forcefully. They will not let go of a chance to vent it out. The Valkyrian commander said, “We need to prepare, put the warriors all over the place, have them sneak attack the mages and injure them.”

The commander was cunning, but what they did not expect was for Ignis to mobilize the only the flying units and attack from above. The threat of Ballistas was something that has been hindering their attack power a lot and thus now they were going to snatch back the lead and opportunity to win the war.

...

Valerian was circling the skies and locating the ballistas when he suddenly felt Linea bank hard to the left. He looked and saw a big bird appear in the sky. At the back of this bird sat a man, this man had a broad chest and wore beast pelts. Along with this man a timid looking person sat on the back of the flying beast.

The guy was a beast tamer. Valerian could tell all this with a glance. He said, “So, they sent you to stop me? Grandmaster?”

The man with the broad chest nodded and said, “I have long heard your name, Silver Shadow. Today I will kill you.”

Valerian chuckled and said, “What sort of name is that? I am Valerian, Valerian Verus. As for killing me, we will see if you have the skills.”

The man nodded and pushed his feet against the back of the magical beast and then vanished from his place. Valerian was prepared, his gaze was trained on every part of the man. He said, “Dive.”

.....

Linea replied with his actions and dived down. Valerian stood up from the saddle while holding the handle and said, “Circle around.”

Linea moved in a circle, and Valerian spotted the grandmaster diving towards him like a hawk. Valerian smirked and pushed off from the back of his mount with great force. The grandmaster was surprised and he did not expect for this young man to attack him in kind.

The grandmaster punched at Valerian, while the boy also replied with a fist of his own, and his fist was covered with something like barbs of stone. This was the effect of an earth magic spell, “Terrae Spicae.”

However, Valerian had not chanted the spell loudly, his casting was silent. The grandmaster only noticed the spikes when it was too late. Valerian was one grade below him in strength but with the augmentation of the earth spell, he was on par with the grandmaster, at least for a few moments.

The two fists clashed and the people were repelled by the force. While the broad chested man was caught by the beast, Linea rescued Valerian with a quick maneuver. The problem was evident and Valerian had sensed it. He will not be able to last long.

So he decided to take another method to deal with this entire scenario. He said a few things to Linea using his bond with him. Then, he again took off from the back of the bird. The grandmaster did not want to be left behind, but suddenly, he felt a strong gust of wind pushing against him. The next moment, Valerian punched him. The impact leaned toward the young boy, however, he did not plan to let the enemy get away with just a repulsion.

Valerian also cast a few flame javelins to attack the man. The spell casting was done in silence to catch the man off guard. The attack was quick and precise. Three flame spells landed on the exact same spot of the body. The grandmaster warriors were all capable of using their battle aura to create a layer of protective armor around their bodies.

The beast pelt on the bodies was not normal either, it was a high grade soft armor. Something akin to what Valerian wore when he hunted down a war bear. Even if the attack did not damage the body of the grandmaster much, it did push him back in the void. The speed was fast, and when the man turned around to see where his mount was, he was surprised to see that the blue bird was attacking his mount and with a lightning streak attack it had killed the beast tamer.

Without the tamer, the beast was wild, and Linea left after its job was done, Valerian cast a wind spell to push himself further from the grandmaster and slow down his speed of descent when Linea caught him. The grandmaster yelled, but it was to no avail. He fell at a high speed, and his body mass only added to his trouble.

However, he was not weak, the man quickly channeled his battle aura to condense an armor, but Valerian behind him did not allow him such a chance at survival. He took out a steel arrow from the quiver on Linea’s back, and covered the arrow with his Light mana, and shot the arrow at the back of the man.

Light attribute had a property that made it very deadly, the property to pierce, the steel arrow coated with the light attribute will be able to get past the armor and the battle aura protection of the man, and the final touch will belong to Linea.

As the arrow lodged itself in the shoulder blade lightly, the man tried to use his hands to take it out, but Valerian was cruel and said, “Linea, give him some lightning.”

The thunder falcon let out a cry from its hard beak and a lightning streak hit the arrow. Steel conducted electricity and the electricity rendered the grandmaster motionless. The numbness did not allow him to condense battle aura, and even disrupted the one he had already condensed.

A proud Grandmaster fell on the ground with a loud thud and his bones were shattered from the impact. The battlefield stopped for a moment, when the dust cloud settled and the soldiers checked the person in the shallow pit, they were shocked.

The skull of the man in the pit was broken and brain matter was flowing from the inside. There was a steel arrow embedded in the back of the man. The news was relayed to the commander, and then it spread across the battlefield like fire in dry grassland. The people were shocked, a grandmaster was defeated and this was a huge blow to their confidence.

In the land of berserks, Grandmaster was an entity they all worshiped, their strength was at the pinnacle, but still this person was defeated. This meant the enemy had a stronger expert on their side. This made them all worry a little.

Just like Valerian had said earlier, worry on the battlefield means death. Using the opportunity, and exploiting the fact that the enemy was stunned, Ignis commanded the flying units to attack ferociously. The effect of the attack was so drastic that the people were left with no chance under the arrow rain.

On the other side, the people received the news that Valerian has managed to kill a Grandmaster, and their morale rose like the sun in the horizon. It did not take the flying unit more than a couple of hours to leave the enemy in tatters.

...

Inside the city, a soldier rushed over to the bunker of the prince, and said, “Urgent update from the battlefield, Your Highness.”

Ignis nodded and said, “Come in.”

The soldier came inside and knelt on his knee and said, “Your Highness, Prince Valerian has slain a Grandmaster warrior.”

Ignis stopped what he was doing and took a deep breath. He said, “Tell the mage units commander to report.”

The soldier nodded and left the tent. Ignis looked at the flying unit commander beside him and said, “The mages will take the last attack, do not chase after the berserk remnants, we do not know how many grandmasters they have. The Berserks are not fools, they might retreat in order to lure us deeper.”

The commander nodded and said, “What you said is correct your highness, however, we will need some ground units to secure the reoccupied ground.”

Ignis nodded, “Yes, but before that have the situation calm down a bit and call for the flying unit to maintain a sharp gaze at the situation.”

Suddenly, a guard said, “Your Highness, Prince Valerian has arrived in the city and is heading over here.”

Ignis nodded and said, “Bring him in without delay.”

Valerian’s arrival will have significant impact in the further battle field.
